Even while pregnant with my fourth child, shopping for bottles, pacifiers heck even diapers seemed like I was a beginner. I wandered the isles of Target (my favorite store) aimlessly throwing whatever I thought I would need in my cart. I knew what I wanted and what I liked from my previous pregnancies but so much has changed in 18 years ( Yes I started over). I couldn’t make up my mind on which bottles to get. I planned on breast feeding but wanted to get bottles just in case. I wanted the bottle nipples to mimic the breast nipples has much as possible, so which one should I choose. The options are limitless. So many different options. I wish I would have known then what I do now, or at least had a guide like what I am giving you here.

Being a first time mommy is super scary at times, so shopping for your little bundle of joy shouldn’t be! Here I have compiled a list of must haves for mommy and baby.

Before I get into the items you will need for when your baby arrives, let me tell you one of my absolute favorite thing I had while I was pregnant… It was my fetal doppler. I absolutely loved having this at home, I no longer had to wait for my appointments to hear my babies heart beat. I could relax knowing that he was doing good. Now you can too. Breast Pumps

Even though my little man was full term, he was born with a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and needed to be in the NICU for a few days. For those first few days, I pumped. My milk supply came in nicely but my baby boy wasn’t strong enough to nurse or feed with a bottle. The best breast pump, hands down is the Medela Sonata Smart Double Electric Breast Pump. If you can afford it, opt for the double breast pump. It saves so much time. There are cheaper ones out there but they are kinda bulky. You should check with your insurance company, sometimes they will pay for them. Here are some of the other ones I recommend.

Nursing Must Haves

These next few items are nursing mothers must haves. I couldn’t nurse without any of these, I mean I could but they made life so much simpler. On the top of my list is the medela nipple shield. This is exactly what it sounds like. First starting out breast feeding is sometimes a challenge on both mommy and baby making for some very sore nipples. These shields were a life saver, or should I say nipple saver!

Bottles

If you plan on breast feeding I would strongly advise you to pick a bottle that’s nipple is most real life like. Once my baby boy was strong enough to feed, I made sure the NICU nurses used the nipple and bottles I brought. I didn’t want him to reject me when I got the chance to finally nurse him. Here are just a few bottles that I feel will serve you and your baby best.

Newborn Must Haves

During pregnancy your mind races and wonders about all the things your new baby will need. Babies need a LOT of things. Most are more for convenience but some are things that you will definitely need for your little one.

Car Seats

Usually I skimp on the little odds and ends things the baby and I need but car-seat safety is a big deal to me. We live in a heavily wooded area where the deer and bear are plentiful. They are notorious for shooting across the road any time of day. Here are a list of my top favorites.

Cribs

This is another thing I don’t skimp on. Most but not all cribs convert. 4 in 1 usually, some even convert 7 in 1. Convertible cribs convert from a crib to a toddler bed, daybed to a full size bed. During the crib and toddler bed phase you can use a crib mattress.

Bassinets, Sleepers and Swings

During the first few nights home I put my baby is a bassinet in my room with me. Being sleep deprived and breast feeding on demand can take a toll on your body, so any time I could keep the baby close to me and not have to go to the nursery half asleep I would. The bassinet was a life saver for me, if I was in the living room during the day, I could bring the bassinet with me and have the baby close to me.

Diapers & Wipes

Throughout my pregnancy, each pay day I would buy a pack of diapers and wipes. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had two closets full. I mainly bought newborn, 1 and 2 sizes. I bought different brands, since newborn skin is sometimes too sensitive for one brand, it could perfect for the next. Here are some of my favorites.

Amazon is having a huge sale on baby stuff. Check it out here

I hope you will find this list useful and enjoy your new bundle of joy. Take a lot of pictures because they grow up super fast.

I would love to hear from all the mommies out there! What are some of your favorites?
